Beschreibung

My name is Kiyoe K. D. Wellington, and I’m a Swiss-American double bassist residing inBasel currently affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. During my two years in Switzerland I haveperformed as the Kontrabass Praktikantin for Luzerner Sinfonieorchester during their 2018/19season, a fellow in the Lucerne Festival Academy with composer-in-residence, Thomas Kessler, and have recently joined the new music group Delirium Ensemble in a concert at the BaselMusik Akademie where we performed all new pieces by Caspar Johannes Walter and hiscomposition studio students. After receiving a traditionally classical education from the New England Conservatory ofMusic in Boston, Massachusetts I continued my studies in contemporary performance practice, culminating in a Master of Arts in Music degree from the University of California, San Diego.Other notable groups and festivals I have performed with include Klangspuren Schwaz led byEnsemble Modern, Summer Institute for Contemporary Performance Practice (SICPP) led byStephen Drury, director of Callithumpian Consort, and the Nothing But Bass Records’ (NBBRcords) 75th Birthday Celebration “Tribute to Teppo” CD compilation for Finnish bassist andcomposer, Teppo Hauta-Aho.My passion lies in performing the music of living composers, and recently have workedprimarily as a freelance, taking jobs that often require travelling. This global pandemic hasaffected me by halting the ability to work as a performing artist, which requires the meeting ofgroups of people, so that we may rehearse and, of course, perform for a public audience.
